India has a keen interest in propping up the industry, which employs 400,000 mill workers and supports an estimated 4 million families. Still, in the 12 months ending in March, India’s jute production fell by nearly 8 per cent from the year before, to 1.68 million tons, according to government statistics.

Meanwhile, to improve efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in its water system, Manila Water improved its screening system to capture solid wastes efficiently. The company has also procured more efficient equipment such as that of screw and turbo blowers suited for water treatment applications.

To date, however, no U.S. cannabis company has gone public through the traditional IPO process because of the need for an underwriter. Minnesota has adopted geotextiles for widespread use. More than 3 million square yards of nonwoven geotextiles have been used in unbonded concrete overlays in the state since 2010, according to Matt Zeller, executive director of the Concrete Paving Association of Minnesota.

But it was the Geotube bags that garnered his greatest enthusiasm. “It’s pretty cool, really…. It’s brilliant. I wish I owned the patent,” Shurtleff said.

This year, the association introduced a low-cost sanitary pad made entirely from the fluffy, highly absorbent cellulose of jute plants. Officials said they have begun talks with the Indian arm of Johnson & Johnson to bring the pad to the mass market.
