Ryan Skinner, head grower at Green Rose Gardens, LLC, uses plastic pots and grow bags for small clones being prepped for their outdoor grow. But he turns to 30-gallon fabric pots for mother plants. “The babies are only in plastic for a short time,” Skinner says. “For our mother plants, the fabric allows for greater airflow through the soil and much better root growth.”

Rising construction projects to develop ports, roads, airports, housing, and railways particularly in UK, France, Italy, and Germany signify high product demand in the region. The regional companies are focusing on strategic partnerships to increase their capacity and expand their global reach. “We wanted to be finished in the spring,” says Bandy, “but the wet weather in 2012 delayed us. We had such a wet summer that the whole site turned into a bog.”

Besides managing the infiltration of seawater into the newly-created intertidal wetland, the Medmerry project has to accommodate the existing natural freshwater flows form the enclosed farmland behind the new earth embankment.

Between 2007 and 2011, multiple field investigations were conducted in the upland areas of the site and in adjacent portions of Gloucester InnerHarbor by GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA), Anchor QEA, and Arcadis. Subsurface infrastructure and oil and/or hazardous materials (OHMs) related to the MGP operations were identified at multiple privately and publicly-owned properties that comprised the former MGP site, as well as within adjacent harbor sediments. This included coal tar, which was a by-product of the gas manufacturing process. A Phase II Comprehensive Site Assessment summarizing the nature and extent of impacts was submitted to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) in July 2011. A Phase III Remedial Action Plan, submitted to MassDEP in February 2012, evaluated and selected feasible remedial alternatives.
